As part of our series on obesity, we would like to hear from readers with their own experiences of dieting and weight loss.

Have you been overweight and managed to successfully lose it? Is dieting too hard to maintain? Do you struggle with obesity-related health issues? Britain's doctors are demanding a 20% increase in the cost of sugary drinks, fewer fast food restaurants near schools and a ban on fatty food in hospitals to stem the country's obesity crisis. Would such measures have helped you? What more could the government do to help those struggling with their weight?

Tell us your personal stories of how you have dealt with weight and related health issues.

If you would like to participate, email Isabella Mackie (isabella.mackie@guardian.co.uk) before 11.30am on Wednesday 20 February, with a contribution of about 200-300 words. Please include your Comment is free username, your real name and a number we can contact you on. We'll pick four entries for publication.

The subject line of your email should be "People's panel" and you should include an element of comment – your opinion on the issue being debated. If you object to having your real name used, mention this; if not, we will publish it.
